Have not had a chance to read and study the whole book, but the little I have study and read is great I am looking forward to finishing up the book and taking the test.

I was dismayed to find that the exam (640-822 ICND1) had numerous questions on some key concepts that were not included at all in the book – namely Subinterfaces, VLANs, and Access Control Lists. Fortunately, the questions on these topics were not too advanced and I was obviously able to make some educated guesses because I passed the exam…but still, it would be nice when buying a book labeled “Covers All Exam Objectives” to actually have a book that covers all exam objectives. I’m not sure if Cisco changed the exam objectives since the book was published or what, but it’s pretty disappointing and frustrating to find yourself struggling to learn a new topic literally as you’re taking the exam.
Critical omissions notwithstanding, it’s obvious why Todd Lammle is widely considered the authoritative source for certification prep – his writing style is thorough and concise, he systematically builds on each topic before proceeding to the next, all of which makes for a very effective study aide. My advice, if you decide to take the CCENT-to-CCNA route like I did, would be to purchase his CCNA Study Guide for Exam 640-802 (ISBN 978-0-470-11008-9). Read everything except for Chapters 7 and 13 (dealing with EIGRP and OSPF routing protocols, and IPv6). That should be enough to make sure you’re fully covered for the 640-822 ICND1 exam. Then again, since you’ll have read 80% of the book at this point, why not cover Chapters 7 and 13 as well and just go straight for your CCNA (Exam 640-802 CCNA)? Probably the route I would have taken if I could do it again.

I am preparing for the CCENT and CCNA Exams. I have purchased training videos to help understand concepts. I now use this book to fine tune what I need to know to pass the exam. With this book and plenty of hands-on practice I expect good results. I highly recommend this CCENT book to every new CCNA candidate. I really liked it and read it from cover to cover.
